Ovo Solo - Setting Up Your Study
Ovo Solo gives you the features you need to conduct a software usability test with a minimum of fuss whether you deploy your study on a single computer or use a second computer to log observations in real time.
Usability Test Setup: Users, Tasks, and Logging Strategies
Setting up your study is a breeze with Ovo Solo’s Study Setup interface. Create user ID’s, define demographics, add scenario materials, create categories, questionnaires, map quick log keys and develop multiple treatments for administering the test materials to users.
Users, Descriptions and Demographics – Provide detailed information on each of your subjects for later cross-reference. Create an unlimited number of user demographics, such as age, gender, or level of experience, for classifying users. These demographics are used as independent variables for your post study data analysis.
Tasks and Task Parameters – Author your test scenarios in Ovo Solo so that they can be shared with users online during the study. Task resolution/success ratings can be configured on a qualitative or quantitative basis. For each task in your test plan, you can now set up an unlimited number of sub-timers, counters, checklists, and moderator questions. These custom task parameters, only viewable from the logging side of the test, give moderators the ability to classify user behavior within a task in a variety of ways.
Categories - Ovo Solo features a robust categorization engine, allowing you to create as many category sets as you want, and an unlimited degree of hierarchical categories. You can also associate an icon or a color with each category, allowing you to visually track patterns in your data. In addition to Molich and Nielsen Heuristics (1990) and Ovo Heuristics, Ovo Solo contains Gerhardt-Powals’ Heuristics (1996) and Nielsen Heuristics (1994).
QuickLog Keys – An efficient alternative to traditional logging, Ovo Solo’s QuickLog engine lets you log by clicking a palette or using keyboard combinations, each mapped back to a label or mnemonic, such as “Navigation Issue”, “Great Video Here”, or “User Expressed Frustration”. Ovo Solo allows you to set an icon or color for each QuickLog code that will be displayed on your timeline.
Questionnaires – Ovo Solo has unparalleled questionnaire options. Choose from standardized USE, SUS or QUIS questionnaires, or create your own with short answer, essay, Likert, bulleted answers, multiple choice, matrix style and ranking questions.
OvoScript - allows you to visually create a workflow for your study, bringing together tasks, questionnaires, event tracking and recording control. Create multiple “treatments” to vary task order or survey presentation, then assign these treatments to your users. Automatically launch website and desktop application stimuli to be tracked by the Event Logger engine. OvoScript allows you to administer a more uniform test with or without a moderator present!
Hardware Setup Option #1: Single Computer Implementation
Ovo Solo has two options for implementation on a single computer. It can be set up without a webcam and record just the user computer screen or with a webcam and record the user computer screen and the user's face.
Hardware Setup Option #2: Two-Computer Implementation
If you would like to log observations in real time, Ovo Solo can be used in a two-computer configuration. The following diagram shows the addition of a logging computer where the facilitator would log observations. Video is streamed to the Facilitator’s computer, and logged observations synch back to the data on the User computer.
