About Ovo Studios

Ovo Logger: Scalable, Flexible Architecture

The Ovo Studios Logging Core Computer

When you invest in multi-source recording and helper applications like Online Surveys and LabStream, these features are licensed to an Ovo Studios Logging Core computer.

  • For fixed usability labs, this computer is a dual-core workstation computer that resides in your lab's control room.
  • For portable usability labs, this computer is the portable lab's notebook computer.

Ovo Studios Logging Core computers record your video, host remote observers, and administer online surveys to your users -- they are central to running your usability tests.

Ovo Studios Editing Station Licenses

In order to free your Logging Core computers for usability testing, we have offloaded usability preparation and post-hoc analysis to the Ovo Studios Editing Station software. You may install this software at no charge on any computer and do all pre-test and post-test work away from the lab:

  • Pre-test setup, e.g., writing scenarios, doing user profiling, etc.
  • Post-test tasks, e.g., analyzing logged events, writing results, creating highlights, and exporting and HTML report.

This maximizes the utility of your Logging Core computer and gives you the flexibility to work somewhere besides the usability lab.

Running Usability Tests with Editing Station Software - No Can Do

Many of our customers have asked us this question: "The lab is booked and I need to run a test. Can I record video and administer questionnaires using Editing Station software?" The answer is, "No."

When usability shops are successful to the point where demand for their services has outrun the capacity of their existing facilities, it is time to decide whether to buy another fixed or portable usability lab. Either lab will have an Ovo Studios Logging Core which will have the functionality needed to run a test.

Microsoft Standard Technologies

Ovo Logger uses Microsoft Standard Technologies for Video and Audio recording and streaming.  This means that a practitioner at a remote location can view full quality video and audio feeds on any Windows based machine without the need to install any third party applications.

Enterprise-Level Analysis and Data Collation

Large user experience organizations typically generate a great deal of user data, analysis, design recommendations, visual and graphic designs, guidelines and standards, and other collateral. Organizing this information in such a way that it is sharable between all stakeholders has in the past been difficult, especially considering the inherent links between these items and other artifacts from the product development lifecycle. Ovo Studios has introduced the UCD Toolkit to alleviate these inefficiencies.

The UCD Toolkit is a set of web applications that organizes all user experience reports, documents, designs, and other collateral in an online, searchable format. Ovo Logger integrates with the UCD Toolkit in the following ways:

  • Design recommendations made in Ovo Logger's Usability Findings editor can be tracked, and implementation data can be collated and analyzed by the UCD Toolkit's ImpactTracker module.
  • Ovo Logger's Usability Findings can be linked to and used as referential examples for guidelines created in the UCD Toolkit's Guidelines and Standards database.
  • Ovo Logger reports can be searched based on report date, report author, applicable products, feature names, or even keyword string search using the UCD Toolkit's Report Viewer module.
