Scott has been in the usability field since 1990 and has a Master's Degree in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Maryland at College Park. He was a founding member, Secretary (2004), and webmaster for the Northeast Ohio Chapter of the UPA. At the 1998 ACM SIG CHI conference in Los Angeles, Scott was a co-panelist with Jacob Nielsen and Ben Shneiderman, discussing whether the web was fundamentally different than any other product to which we had applied UCD methodologies; a synopsis of his position is posted at

Rich is the former President of the User Experience Professionals Association, International. His service to the UXPA organization began as a Board Member and continues after the end of his term-limited role as President as he lends his experience and guidance to the organization.

Rich holds a Bachelor's Degree in Cognitive Psychology and a Master's Degree in Human-Computer Interaction from Carnegie Mellon University and has been in the usability field since 1998. My team currently supports over 200 individual User Researchers in over 45 labs in the US and internationally. We currently use Ovo Logger as our primary digital capturing software.

With the scale and diversity of the multiple business groups we support it is vital that we have a tool that provides the flexibility to fit our various internal customers' needs. The Ovo Logger suite allows for us to provide the highest quality reporting and analysis for our user research studies. The hardware-based screen capture allows the software to capture full-resolution VGA signals from any operating system, even through reboots of the participant machine. It allows us to capture any signal from any device including PDAs, Tablet PCs, MACs, Cell Phones and various gaming consoles.

Our current lab configuration requires us to be able to capture 4 independent feeds. Ovo Logger allows us to currently capture 3 independent camera fees as well as single VGA. Leveraging Windows Media based technologies, Ovo Logger has allowed for easy integration with Microsoft streaming technologies, making remote observation simple and scalable.

One feature that we have found to be a great boon is the freeware license that allows the User researchers to perform all pre-study setup and all post test analysis, highlight creation and reporting at their desks. As I mentioned previously, we have over 200 user researchers making this feature vital. This also frees up the licensed Ovo Logger machines in the labs for other studies.

The Ovo Logger's projects are highly portable and can be opened from a server, making file sharing and data transfer simple. We maintain a multi-terabyte file server that allows for easy remote access from anywhere our researchers may be.

To date Ovo Studios has provided us with free upgrades and a user-centered design philosophy that allows the Ovo Logger solution to evolve alongside the changing methodologies and requirements of Microsoft's user researchers. We have a single point of contact within Ovo Studios who is an expert usability practitioner, meaning questions can be answered in the context of the methodology. Our primary support contact is also Ovo Logger's lead developer, which minimizes implementation time for feature requests and bug fixes.

Through collaboration with our development community, Ovo Studios is preparing for the future by investing time in discovering details about Windows Media 11, Windows Vista, and other emerging technologies which allow them to enhance their product.

Moving forward we are interested in the possibility of simultaneous "8-source" recording and Enterprise level data warehousing and integration. The staff at Ovo Studios is extremely professional and they are dedicated in their efforts to assist our complicated needs in a timely manner.

Ovo Logger allows me to quickly log and report usability data. This is by far the most efficient, easy to use logging suite that I have used. From set up to reporting, Ovo Studios has developed a solution that supports both large and small user centered design teams.

I have been using the Ovo Studios Portable Lab for more than a year. Within that year, I have conducted more than 30 tests across the country. I can set and tear down the lab up in less than 10 minutes and conduct both hardware and software tests using the same equipment. Once I am administering the test, I use Ovo Logger to capture all user comments, including both audio and video feedback. Because the logger is 100% digital, all of my logged comments are automatically indexed and synchronized with the captured video and audio files. Additionally, using Ovo Studios Screen Recorder, I can capture a full screen, recorded version of the participants' desktop that allows me to analyze detailed field entry, mouse clicks, and navigation.

Using the integrated questionnaire tool, I can complete the post survey questionnaires and save automatically save them within the final report.

At the completion of each test, I simply compile the results. Ovo Logger automatically creates an HTML-based report, which includes the log files, each with links to the supporting audio/video highlights, task completion times by user and scenario, and any overview information about the activity that I created.

I can then create my highlights, observations, and recommendations within Ovo Logger. I no longer need to review HI-8 tapes or Microsoft Word based log files. I can simply write the result, associate the related observations, and make design recommendations. All within the logging tool. Once my observations are complete, I use the product to track the action items for each recommendation.

Joe Sacco, Human Factors Engineer

As a Human Factors Engineer in IBM's Data Management division I work with some of the most robust software developed. There is a large focus on ease-of-use and usability, and ensuring we share the results of our user sessions with the extended IBM community including development, sales, and marketing. To help us do this, we use logging software developed by Ovo Studios. Ovo has installed two User-Centered Design (UCD) labs for us and their powerful software allows us to digitally record our sessions and produce a complete UCD report in HTML format. One feature allows us to create a 'Results' section where time stamped video clips of the user can be associated with a result and recommendation, this way interested parties can easily see the supporting material behind any recommendation with just one click. Ovo's software also allows for customization which is terrific, with so many HFEs working on different product offerings, we can customize our reports to our products and audience. In my experience, the reports that I have produced with this software have been very well received and critical in getting many of my UCD recommendations implemented. The biggest highlight from working with Ovo has been the customer service. It is rare that we have an issue that does not get resolved with just one phone call. The people at Ovo are friendly, professional, and as dedicated to our customers as we are.

Having used Ovo Logger for the last 9 months, it is, in my opinion, the best software that could have happened to the Usability Field. With the capability to synchronize notes to the video during live sessions, from the facilitator, note taker, and anyone else who wants to take notes, saves on the amount of time needed to perform analysis. No more watching tapes for hours! By having notes synchronized with the video, it is more efficient to find clips and create highlight videos. Ovo Logger also allows us to create reports with associated notes, observations and video. Our internal clients love that we deploy our reports in HTML format, with links to the video to refer back to! Additionally, having the ability to stream live testing to our internal clients and developers who are in Europe, California and D.C., has allowed everyone to feel that they are involved in the testing experience!

Rich and Scott have been great in supporting our needs and working with us too! Since Ovo Studios installed our lab in July 2003, we have been able to work with the Ovo team to enhance the software to benefit Monster (as well as the rest of the Usability community). This kind of software personalization, support and time, has been a great benefit and opportunity for Monster.
